The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a much anticipated medical exam that is conducted every year. Who Can Apply for NEET?
The NEET application process started on 6 April and lasted till 20 May, 9 pm. The application fee should have been paid before 20 May, 11.50 pm. Any aspirant who has completed 17 years of age (on or before 31/12/2005) can apply for this exam. Also, they must have appeared/passed Class 12 or equivalent assessment with biology/biotechnology, physics, English and chemistry as main subjects. They must have scored at least 50% marks in these subjects to qualify for the examinations. For OBC/PwD/SC/ST candidates, 40% is enough.
Furthermore, the upper age limit has been scrapped this year. Even NRI and OCI candidates can apply for this NEET exam with proper and valid ID proofs. This exam is mandatory for OCI and Indian citizens to pursue medicine abroad.
Application process
This exam is conducted for admissions into medical programmes like MBBS, BUMS, BSMS, BHMS, BAMS and BDS. Medical/dental aspirants must stick to the following steps to successfully register for this exam without any backlog.
- Candidates are advised to visit the official website of NTA to click on the online application tab. Then, enter basic details to generate login credentials.
- Now complete the application form by filling in personal and educational details. After that, upload necessary documents like photograph, signature, thumb impression, and Class 10 mark sheet.
- After confirming all details, proceed to the payment portal. Pay the required examination fee to successfully complete the application process.
- Finally, download the confirmation page for future reference. Admit card for NEET will be provided 10 to 15 days before the exam.
Make sure to do all these procedures with a stable internet connection. Also, keep the scanned documents ready in the required format and size. Applying multiple forms under different IDs will lead to the termination of the application. If the application is rejected, the fee amount won’t be refunded.
NEET Preparations
Though NEET is a highly competitive exam, it can be cracked with certain proven strategies. The two most important things to do are – understanding the syllabus and solving question papers. Thus, it assists in creating an organised study planner by focusing on weak and strong areas.

- Biology includes both botany and zoology topics like the physiology of plants and animals, genetics, evolution, ecology, cell biology, biotechnology, reproduction and morphology chapters.
