5 Expert Tips to Keep Your Feet Healthy

Your feet are among the important organs when it comes to your flexibility. Through healthy feet, you can easily move around to where you want. However, many people underrate the power of the feet until they develop the feet complications that hinder their mobility. In addition, foot complications such as warts impair the skin texture, undermining an individual’s attractiveness. Fortunately, the experienced podiatrist from Kenneth Meisler, DPM, PLLC & Associates provides the following expert tips to maintain feet health.

    Clean Your Feet

How often do you wash your feet? Regularly washing your feet is one of the important measures to reduce the likelihood of fungal infections on the feet. When cleaning your feet, it is essential to use lukewarm water since extremely hot or cold water can damage your skin, especially if you have reduced skin sensation due to diabetes. Use a soft towel to dry your feet after washing them.

    Cut Your Nails Regularly

Overgrown nails provide a conducive environment to the bacteria along the nail beds, causing foot problems. It is, therefore, necessary to trim your nails more often. However, you should avoid cutting them too short since they could trigger ingrown toenails, which is painful. File your nails ends after trimming them straight across to reduce the sharpness, which could hurt your other feet, especially when sleeping.

    Check Your Feet

Sometimes you can develop soreness in your feet without knowing, especially if you have diabetes. Therefore, you should inspect your feet more often to see whether you have redness or small cuts. Use a magnifying hand mirror to check the bottom parts of your feet easily.

     Manage Your Blood Sugars

Individuals with diabetes are at a greater risk of developing foot problems. Notably, when you have high glucose in your blood, your skin is likely to lose sensation due to nerve damage. In addition, high blood sugar reduces blood circulation along the legs, thus retarding the healing process in case your feet have injuries. Fortunately, you can keep your blood sugar levels normal through regular physical exercises and a healthy diet. Engage in moderate exercises such as brisk walking for at least thirty minutes daily and increase the intake of nutritious meals such as leafy vegetables and fruits.

    Wear the Correct Fitting Shoes

Shoes that do not have ample room for your feet can cause blistering and irritation. Consequently, you will change your walking postures, exposing your ankles to sprains. Therefore, when buying shoes, choose the ones that are properly fit to keep your feet healthy. If you participate in the sporting activities such as athletes, it will help if you talk with your coach about the correct shoes based on the terrain where you are training.

Your feet do wonder to keep you moving from one place to another. Therefore, you should never underrate them when caring for your overall health. Invest in comfortable footwear that does not compromise your feet’ health. Additionally, wash the legs regularly and examine them for blisters and other foot complications. If you detect any foot problem, you should seek appropriate medical intervention.
