Tips to Help You Prevent Heart Disease

Your lifestyle choices can affect your likelihood of getting heart disease. Although you might show some symptoms of heart disease, some tips can help you manage or prevent the condition from taking root. If left unchecked, Plano heart disease can limit your daily activities and affect your quality of life.

    Causes

Heart disease can stem from two primary reasons: conditions you were born with and diseases acquired due to your behavioral factors. You can suffer from heart disease because of a lack of physical exercise, a poor diet, and behavioral risk factors like tobacco or alcohol use.

If your life involves the above causative factors, your cardiovascular disease can show up as high blood pressure, obesity, high blood sugar levels, and cholesterol.

    Symptoms

If you have cardiovascular disease, you can exhibit the following symptoms:

    • Shortness of breath
    • Chest tightness
    • Irregular heartbeat
    • Pain or numbness in the arms or legs
    • Swelling
    • Fatigue
    • Jaw, neck, upper abdomen, and back pain

    Treatment options

Your treatment method will depend on your condition and its causes. If you have a congenital heart condition, your cardiologist might recommend medication or surgery to ease your symptoms and discomfort. If you have an acquired heart disease, your specialist might recommend medication and, or lifestyle changes.

The tips that can help you prevent heart disease

Although you cannot prevent congenital heart disease, you can avoid heart diseases created by your lifestyle choices. For example, by watching your physical levels and diet, you can make informed choices on improving your heart health. The following tips can help you prevent some acquired types of heart disease.

    Diet

Your diet is a very important aspect that contributes to your heart health. Specialists recommend a balanced diet full of healthy fats, lean proteins, and carbohydrates that your body can absorb slowly and steadily. The end goal is to maintain your blood sugar levels.

Examples of foods include potatoes, rice, sweet potatoes, lean proteins like beef, chicken, and fish, and healthy fats like avocados. Daily servings of fresh fruits and vegetables will give your body much-needed nutrition in terms of vitamins.

    Exercise

Another tip that can help you prevent heart disease includes regular physical movement. Although physical exercise can be a problem for people whose jobs demand they sit or stand for long hours, it is important to try and incorporate a routine exercise regimen.

Try to exercise early in the morning or evening when you get off work. Thirty minutes of exercise daily can improve your heart health by burning fat and keeping your blood vessels free from clogging and blockages. Activities like brisk walking, jogging, and swimming can improve your heart rate without stressing your body too much.

    Lifestyle choices

If you love to smoke or drink alcohol daily, you increase your chances of getting cardiovascular disease. You can prevent or minimize your risk by reducing the amount you take or eliminating the behavior.

If you are at risk of getting heart disease, visit Prime Heart and Vascular for treatment. You will meet qualified and experienced cardiovascular specialists ready to offer personalized treatment. Call or book an appointment online and improve the quality of your life.
